This artwork connects deeply focusing on vyshyvanka, a national Ukrainian garment that holds profound cultural significance. Vyshyvanka, with its intricate embroidery, is one of the oldest symbols of the Ukrainian nation. It tells the story of our history, our struggles, and our resilience.
The central theme of this work is the Ukrainian soul, symbolized through the use of Vyshyvanka over canvases. Each of my three canvases represents the past, present, and future. Through these, I explore the continuity of my heritage and the resilience of my people, even in the face of destruction.
Artist works with Vyshyvanka, a traditional Ukrainian embroidery that is hundreds of years old, pairing it with modern abstract art. This fusion of the ancient and the contemporary reflects the ongoing struggle and survival of culture. Black and white are primary colors and symbolizing the stark contrast of life. Through this minimalist palette, Ory Kaïro aims to convey the profound impact of conflict on my perception of the world.
This work is a testament to the enduring spirit of Ukraine, a tribute to artist roots, and a reflection of the ongoing journey toward peace and preservation of our culture
Wherever Ukrainians go, they carry the spirit of vyshyvanka with them. It symbolizes our indomitable spirit, a spirit that has endured countless attempts to erase our identity, language, and culture. Through this art, Ory Kaïro use Vyshyvanka as a powerful representation of this spirit, reflecting how traditional fabrics like this one play a vital role in preserving and expressing cultural identity, particularly in the face of adversity.
